What’s not immediately apparent to them is, of course, quite clear to the audience, even if we didn’t keep jumping back to Porter and the scientists trying to deal with his condition. Scripter Jake Wade Wall builds some decent character development and tension as he establishes the group dynamic, and he and director Kaare Andrews pull off an inventively icky introduction of Josh and Penny to the viral threat, as they come across a bunch of rotted fish while snorkeling.

Dobbs and Josh have planned a surprise bachelor-party outing to an unspoiled, off-the-map island, on which Penny-who evidently still harbors unresolved feelings for Marcus-tags along. Specifically, Marcus (Mitch Ryan) arrives in the Dominican Republic with best friend and business partner Dobbs (Ryan Donowho) for his wedding, also attended by Marcus’ über-hedonist brother Josh (Brando Eaton) and his girlfriend Penny (Jillian Murray).

That transition could have fueled a compelling, claustrophobic character study, but the demands of the formula dictate that there must also be youths in peril, so Porter’s plight is intercut with that of a group of party-heartiers. The attendant scientists intend to use him to develop a virucide, while Porter wants only his freedom, and goes from desperation to manipulation over the course of his scenes.

In fairness the early scenes inside the research lab were semi decent but the rest of the movie wasn't.Cabin Fever: Patient Zero begins with a vacationer named Porter (Sean Astin) being imprisoned in a secret government lab, an unwilling subject of study because he’s an asymptomatic carrier of a virulent flesheating virus that has already killed his son. What this all boils down to is that 'Cabin Fever 3: Patient Zero' was not a good movie and a bit of a slog to keep watching. This is down to many things including that not one character is likeable so in the end you don't care if anyone gets off the island alive or unaffected. Whilst you have the flesh eating virus which is the connection the only other connection is if there is an attractive actress there will be at least an underwear shot and in one case a topless scene.īasically what I am saying is that 'Cabin Fever 3: Patient Zero' is not only cliche but poorly done cliche with nothing to make it enjoyable. And then on the other hand we have the typical young friends getting high and getting laid in a remote location. On one hand we have the dark, atmospheric scenes in the research lab which features the over use of slow motion and close ups.

When thanks to Porter's frustration the virus escapes the island becomes a battleground as Marcus and his friends not only have to deal with those who become infected by the virus but also those who aren't.įirst things first and I have never been a huge fan of the 'Cabin Fever' movies and felt the original, which many were impressed by, was overrated but compared to 'Cabin Fever 3: Patient Zero' the original almost seems Oscar worthy.
